MADE IN POLAROID 505050 was a benefit auction which raised money for an organisation in FreeArts - benefiting children through the arts. They collaborated with 50 artist to create 50 works of art using their newly released instant photo printer, the GL10.

Patrick Demarchelier, Estevan Oriol, Steven Klein, Alex Pardee and Gary Taxali where some of the notable artists who took part in the exhibition.

I'm also dedicating this post to my dear friend Oz who asked me why he hadn't received one and the answer was simple... TWEET BOY TWEET!

Commercial dated 1978 for the Polaroid 1000 camera

Yes, on youtube you can find numerous commercials dating a few decades back when Polaroid cameras were the norm!
From 1978, the Polaroid 1000 which in terms of today would use an SX-70 film unless you modify your camera so that it can take 600 film and by doing so you need to be cautious because the 600 film will be overexposed and you will need to use an ND filter for your lens.

First things first... when the postman arrived this morning I could have literally jumped and given him the biggest hug in the world for delivering this camera to me but that would have just been AWKWARD.. and so I didn't!

I've had my eye on this camera on ebay for a while now and thought to myself that I would let it go, after all I do have enough cameras at the moment( yeah right ) but then something exciting suddenly occurred, I got an email from ebay telling me that the same camera hadn't been sold and was placed once more for a new auction except this time there was a "buy now" button and ta daaaa... I clicked it! guilt freeee!!!

My sister is here visiting me at the moment and of course was guaranteed to have her shots with this camera taken first. I've altered the camera so that it only takes 2 shots instead of 4 and the results are here:

                                     My last polaroid shots from Brighton… and by last shots I mean I HAVE NO FILMS LEFT eeeekkkk!!!

It was a superrr fun trip! we walked around the city, tons of quirky  vintage shops and bookstores, bright colors and graffiti in the streets.  The Pier was somethinnn else I tell ya! For one thing, if you want to  spend your money on amusement rides, you would be going to the right  place. The sea-side is also packed with places to eat and the calamari  plate I had was deeeelishhh.. yummm. Apart from that you’ll find some  ruins of the the original Pier, lots off people soaking up the little  sun they can find there and DISCO BALLS… everywhere!!! One thing I won’t  recommend is their Haunted house ride ( unless you’re three years old  )… you get what I mean.

The second photo looks like it could be a shot of a Taj-Mahal-ish  site but its actually the Royal Pavilion Gardens, also home to  Brightons’ Museum and Art Gallery.

Lets be all geometrical and talk about lines and "architerectrial" things shall we!

Friday, the weather was at a lucky 70 something degrees Fahrenheit and since its been teasing me for the longest time that I hadn't walked across the brooklyn bridge I decided that it was about f**king time!
no map, whatever... just walk and intuition -other peoples of course- would guide me towards my destination. Ended up on Pier 17... WHICH WAS BEAUTIFUL!

boats hanging around by the docks, people out and about shopping and sipping on an afternoon beer :) Rima carrying her heaviest jacket and holding two folding cameras not knowing what to shoot which thing with first! Just how I like it ladies and gentleman

2 detours, and three police/ tourist guides later... I find the Brookly Bridge... WHICH WAS EVEN MOREEEE BEAUTIFULLLLL :D
can I stop writing now because I doubt that words could describe it although I must admit that Wiki makes an excellent attempt at that.

Our friend Imad had come over for a few shots a while back for souzitas project for her stylist course at CSM. I took a single shot of him with my land camera and i absolutely adore this picture! two thumbs up for Imad :)
The subject evolved around escaping from an insane asylum. We had asked an administrator of a school near by in southwark if we could use their gate and they gladly let us in, under strict supervision of course.

FLOWERS EVERYWHERE! its quite overwhelming and very crowded but well worth exploring. the flower market is a sunday market where you can find an array of interesting plants, flowers and trees to get for your home or garden. tons of vibrant colors to chose from. whats wonderful about this road is the shops hidden behind this large gathering of the plant kind. there are many contemporary galleries, boutiques, antique shops, tea and cupcake shops! its a heaven for all things "preeeetttyyy!

so next sunday, get your butts down to columbia road and buy some tulips and herbssss :)

I watched this video today morning, practically first thing when i woke up, and i realllyyy did WAKE UP.

John Hillcoat narrates a story of how he was struck by lightening at the age of 17, how he lived again, and how every day is now a special day.

A short passage from the [Personal Statement] i have written for my Masters application + my 2 new minimal paintings!

...My next destination was my hometown of Athens where I grew up, also the magnificent place where I discovered a new found passion for derelict and abandoned spaces. Traveling back and forth between Cyprus and Greece during that time frame, was a perfect chance for me to document a series of structures where silence acted as the main protagonists amongst the stories of these homes and the people who once lived there. It was in that period of time that I had also started to appreciate all things minimal. I embraced the concept of impermanence, where things could be seen, without having to be physically presented to the observer who is watching. A nostalgia had been awakened in me for a space that was free of material things, a stool in the corner would suffice, anything else would have taken away from the symbolism that nature and time had injected into the cores of those very walls.

Rima: ok, i haven't been to the zoo since i was a child and generally i get over excited about animals for some reason but this was somethin' else folks! a never ending list of amusing characters, colors and pattens... not forgetting funky smells and noises.
shhhh... i had a moment alone with my friend "the monkey", he came towards me, and put his hands onto the glass where mine were, we played, he was curious about my camera. :D

Richard: Of all the things to tire our little legs we chose the Zoo. A day that will stick in my memory for a long time. Butterflies, Monkeys and Birds all going about their daily business with us inside their homes. Tigers sleeping, Gorillas sitting and Giraffes eating all added to the experience. Harry Potter even enjoyed his trip there once....The Tapirs were however, hiding.

Sally Mann - The Family and the Land

I seem to have struck a compromise with myself, one trip to The Photographers Gallery every month + one pack of polaroid films for now, although walking in this time was a very different experience.

I entered the gallery hoping to find the Sally Mann exhibit. Giantesque moonlit portraits of her childrens faces. For a few moments i found myself lost in my own thoughts wondering if i could ever take a photograph as meaningful and as enticing as her own. A documentary on her life was playing at the end of the hallway. She was crying because she felt that so many years of work may have meant nothing, wondering if anyone would ever see her art, appreciate her efforts, she cried and i can relate to that after always hearing that photography is just an expensive hobby, wondering if ever... just if ever...

Her photographs are shot using antique cameras and very old processing methods... i don't care what anyone says, there is no way a digital camera will capture an image this raw even at this day and age. You can go see that for yourself, the exhibit runs until the 19th of september

Vienna was here visiting me last month. We went to Camden town and i took a photo and tried to make a painting out of it although i actually thought that maybe i could transfer the photograph onto watercolor paper and i let it soak in hot water for about 10 minutes... until i realized that was NOT going to happen ( for it to peal off i mean ) ... it would just flake off! so anyways pulled it out, got some acrylic white paint... and voilaaaa the resulllttt

To customize, or not to customize?

The question that troubled me for a few weeks after i had bought this pair of shoes from a small Indian shop in central london ( 19 pounds ) plastic of course! and there they were, lying in my closet, i had only worn them twice... thats not a way to treat a pair of shoes now is it? and so, on my next trip to Tesco, i bought the paint that i needed, some string, and a short while later i was sitting on the floor in my living room CREATING :)

managed to find a flash for my Land cam.

took it around london with me to find out if i could get it to work. Opened it up at Jacobs today, thank goodness for "nick" who could even fix a train if it were broken! we opened it up, found a really old ( Ever Ready ) leaky squeaky battery, then found another store with LIGHT BULBSSS... that apparently are one use only... and they explode and shatter once they go off... which explains the blue plastic cover on the flash... which is blue so that the pictures don't turn out yellowish...information overload eeekkk eeeekkk eeeekkkk...   yeah :)

i was taking a walk in the park behind my house... which is hugeee by the way, and for some reason the weather in England decided to go all berserk on me and the cold was grabbing at my bones .. arggghhh! anyways so i'm walking and i realized that there was a nice line for trees going down the path which was beautifully hit by the sunlight for a moment so i got on one knee, quickly opened the camera up and took the shot. well i pulled at the strip to take the film out and tttssskkhhh it ripped off...

fuck...! how do i get the film out exactly?...i figured it out eventually and managed to pull it out and developed it .. but i really disliked the shot! so i grabbed my permanent market and gave it a shot 

i like it better now  :)

the PX Silver Shade 600 Film was released last week by the IMPOSSIBLE Project. It's a photo of my new Land 330 camera that i picked up from Portobello Road at the flea market :D
